Every year during Thanksgiving I
have one thing on my mind, shopping! While most people are thinking about a
delicious turkey or sweet potatoes I have my mind on what stores I am going to
go to first and what I need to grab. I honestly don’t mind staying up all night
and going and waiting outside at 4am to go into a store and get great deals. I
have done this for about 5 years so far and sometimes I am lucky enough to have
a friend join me and sometimes I go alone but last year something changed.
Now
instead of opening up at 5am Thanksgiving night for door busters the stores
were opening on Thanksgiving Day at around 6pm. I have a big family and on
Thanksgiving I truly enjoy seeing all my aunts, uncles and cousins. I decided
that I wouldn’t rush through dinner and just enjoy myself and whatever time I
got home would be fine. I live 3 blocks from the mall so I would get changed
and drive over and start my shopping spree. Unfortunately for me there was
something I didn’t factor into my plans. While even the thriftiest of shoppers
don’t want to wake up in the middle of the night to shop, it is much easier for
them to come to the mall at 11pm and get the same great deals.
My first stop was Macys and after
waiting in line for over an hour just to purchase 2 items I gave up. The amount
of people that were out shopping was ludicrous and it was a complete nightmare.
While waiting in line the woman in front of me was sending her children out on
scouting missions to find what she needed and when they returned she would send
them out again and again. By the time they all returned the woman had at least
30 items she was buying and a total of 5 people now standing in front of me. At
that moment I decided that next year I will sit back, enjoy dinner and do all
of my holiday shopping online in my pajamas.
